Empowering Lancer Students and Teachers
Expanding the Food Pantry
The food pantry is already working to address food insecurity for La Follette students but there are additional needs that must be attended to. Students that are being supported by the food pantry also confront issues of availability of essentials, including clothing and clothing care. To address this, the food pantry plans to expand into a larger space and provide a clothing closet, a washer and a dryer for student use.
The food pantry recently obtained a grant for two UW students (and LHS alumni) to assist with the food bank. These two UW students are currently volunteering with this summer’s Second Harvest popup food cart at La Follette. They also recruited 25 LHS student volunteers to help with the food pantry. Michelle Olson, La Follette Social Worker, and Terry Meissen (LHS BoV) are coordinating this effort. So, we have the people resources in place but we need financial support to expand the availability of essential items to students.
